Just stumbled across this teaser video featuring the amazing Richmond rock band, RPG. It was put together by Richmond based photographer, Kieran Wagner, in support of Studio B, a local music show that is produced by my brother, Jay Smack. I guess he was going to show this to me later but I found it first. Dig.

“Forget everything you’ve ever known about synthesizers. This machine has no piano keyboard or anything like that. It looks like the sort of thing that a mad inventor would make in his shed.” -Tim Boon
The Island
Very few things can stop me in my tracks and blank all distraction, captivate me and consume my attention.
Dali Plays Point Guard
Dali Plays Point Guard from Secret Sidewalk on Vimeo.
From their Vimeo Bio: Hailing from San Francisco and Oakland, Secret Sidewalk is Mike Boo, Puzzle, and Asonic Garcia. Their use of electronic tools such as samplers, synthesizers, and self-built sound modules is with an approach that’s of true musicianship. No programmed loops, no pressing play, its ALL LIVE here.
French Quarter is Stephen Steinbrink
I encountered a song back around 2005 that stuck with me hard. The song itself made me preorder the vinyl which included a free cd. Not one to overhype my flavors o’ the month I’ve just continued to love the music without making bold claims but I’m still listening to this album 6 years later by French Quarter and periodically finding free downloads to my own satisfaction. I love the voice, the style, the approach and the persistence of this artist.
Frank Zappa, Musical Bicyclist
There’s so much going on here. Zappa at the age of 22 on the Steve Allen show. No one has any idea who Zappa is yet.
Healing Toxic Future Music
I just put together this show flyer for woozy crooners, Toxic Future.

Animated Jazz
The art on those old Verve & Blue Note Jazz albums is timeless. Animating them into a movie tastefully might have seen like a bad idea up front. I’ve always thought they were, essentially, static graphics and probably should not be messed with. However this video carries the sensibility, respectfully, congruently into the modern era. I don’t care that it’s two years old, I just saw it and I think it’s simply beautiful. Thanks to my friend Sam for cluing me in to this on Vimeo.
This Life Makes Me Wonder
I easily have hundreds of reggae compilations. Today I was spinning “Jonny Greenwood is the Controller” and hit track 16. I rarely ever make it that far in one sitting on any given day but today I did and subsequently listened to this Delroy Wilson track probably 20 times. I can’t stop loving this track.
