There aren’t very many things that make me happier than riding my bike. I love it. That said, I can not believe what these guys are doing on mountain bikes. It’s thrilling to see how far the art of capturing it on video has progressed.

French Quarter is Stephen Steinbrink
I encountered a song back around 2005 that stuck with me hard. The song itself made me preorder the vinyl which included a free cd. Not one to overhype my flavors o’ the month I’ve just continued to love the music without making bold claims but I’m still listening to this album 6 years later by French Quarter and periodically finding free downloads to my own satisfaction. I love the voice, the style, the approach and the persistence of this artist.
Paco Pomet’s Internacional
Paco Pomet is a surrealist painter from Grenada. This oil painting compounds two emotional contexts that almost jar a laugh out of the viewer. I saw this over on Laughing Squid.
Animated Jazz
The art on those old Verve & Blue Note Jazz albums is timeless. Animating them into a movie tastefully might have seen like a bad idea up front. I’ve always thought they were, essentially, static graphics and probably should not be messed with. However this video carries the sensibility, respectfully, congruently into the modern era. I don’t care that it’s two years old, I just saw it and I think it’s simply beautiful. Thanks to my friend Sam for cluing me in to this on Vimeo.
This Life Makes Me Wonder
I easily have hundreds of reggae compilations. Today I was spinning “Jonny Greenwood is the Controller” and hit track 16. I rarely ever make it that far in one sitting on any given day but today I did and subsequently listened to this Delroy Wilson track probably 20 times. I can’t stop loving this track.
Self Portrait : Blind Contour
Looking at a screen for most of my waking day, relying on my eyes for income and entertainment and only rarely setting them on something that heals them, like moonlight or geese landing on water.
Fishbone, The Story
This band flipped my lid when I first heard them in 1988. Instantly the favorite band of my to-be-continued youth.
A Little Bit of Somethin’
Syndicate - Tommy Guerrero from Off The Wall on Vimeo.
If you’re my age you may remember Tommy Guerrero from the Powell Peralta Bones Brigade or The Search for Animal Chin movie and he’s done so much since then. It’s amazing to look that far back on a career of such sustained, under-the-radar contribution to creative culture. Aside from being a pioneer of modern skateboarding he’s had simultaneously successful careers as a visual artist and a musician. Recently posted onĀ Arkitip, was another acknowledgment of his continuously soulful contribution.
AfroBeat(les)
People often talk about a “fifth Beatle.” If the Beatles collabo’d with Fela it might make Ringo the fifth Beatle. In my opinion George & Fela would have worked out some serious spiritual gestalt music. I got clued to this over here on typo-graphical.com

The Art of Dying
Today is the anniversary of the death of George Harrison. Though he didn’t really take that sort of thing too literally.
