As long as we're talking infinites, that works too. Lately, flipping a coin has been much more efficient though.

Hugging it out with infinitely favorable possibilities leaves me all warm & fuzzy. I think I'd like a t-shirt that says: "I'm with Infinitely Favorable Possibilities."

Wow. I just got the poster in the mail. Each marker is illustrated by the artist. That takes the dedication one level further. Also it came with 4 crisp black push pins. Beautiful

If that show flyer is any indication, the future of music is bright.. albeit a bit red-hued and acid-rainy.

I don't claim to be a music blogger expert but I've thought about this so I'd say that Fishbone would have been glad to get rich. They just never did. They only focused on being themselves through the music. Where as Fugazi deliberately only profited enough to cover cost and pursue a creative vision further, as far as I know. Superchunk ( I think started the label MERGE ) was a very business savvy group and used the business to prioritize the music, broadening their creative options and nurturing a scene. Commercially viable, commercially unproven, commercially successful...if you're going to attempt a career in music you have to be somewhere in there, unless you're the king's harpist or something.

those were hand-me-down bands from this guy Christopher who used to babysit me and my siblings. He drove around with a little Violent Femmes sticker on his mazda and ragged on lead singers that wore trench coats in music videos (e.g. Mister Mister).

But getting back to fishbone: it is possible that their sound - that particular brand of funk/punk - was less commercial by definition? Also, is there a distinction between commercially unsuccessful and underground? (It's becoming increasingly obvious that I'm in over my depth, out of my head...) e.g. How do they compare to Fugazi or Superchunk in these respects?
